LTHS Theatre Board to Present A Raisin in the Sun
The Lyons Township High School Theatre Board proudly presents “A Raisin in the Sun” by Lorraine Hansberry. Faculty member Eugene O’Reilly is the director, and junior Tess Wisher, of LaGrange, is the stage manager. The play follows the story of the Younger family, an African American family of five living in 1959 south side Chicago. The play asks the question posed by Langston Hughes’ famous poem, “What happens to a dream deferred?” The Youngers must decide what to do with an insurance settlement and the consequences of suddenly having money. As two opposing dreams vie for fertile economic soil, the family falls apart and must rebuild itself. Upon the 20th anniversary production in 1986, The Washington Post stated, “It is one of the handful of great American dramas that belongs in an elite inner circle occupied by A long Day’s Journey, Death of a Salesman, and the Glass Menagerie.”
Performance dates are Thursday, Friday and Saturday October 20-22 at 7pm in the North Campus Reber Center for the Performing Arts, 100 S. Brainard Ave., LaGrange. Tickets are $10 ($5 for children and senior citizens) and free with an LTHS student ID. Tickets may be purchased in the box office before the show. The theatre opens 30 minutes before curtain and the show starts promptly.
