Election 2013: D101 Board

Patch has your guide to the 2013 election for the District 101 Board.

 

Seven candidates have submitted their names to run for four open seats on the District 101 Board in the 2013 election.

Incumbent Karen Gibbs is running for reelection. New candidates are Lisa Garvin, Michael Johnson, Charles Mudd Jr., Julie O'Connor, Elizabeth Reedy and Brian Spears. Incumbents Marty Brown, Laura Lipinski and Mark Ptacek are not running for reelection.

Early voting begins March 25. Election Day is April 9.

I would like each of the new candidates to address the issue of tax increases for education, especially in light of the immediate past board's approval of a 3% tax hike. Also, Dist. 101's pension system is only 48% funded (source: Cook County Treasurer's Office) - what is your view on this and how can it be corrected.
