1. A VILLAGE CALLED VERSAILLES
Where/When: 7 p.m. Friday at Thomas Ford Memorial Library, 800 Chestnut St., Western Springs.
Why Go: In this 2009 film, in Versailles, a New Orleans neighborhood, a group of Vietnamese Americans overcomes obstacles to rebuild after Hurricane Katrina, only to have their homes threatened by a new government-imposed toxic landfill. Directed by S. Leo Chiang. Part of the Big Read program.

2. THE LION IN WINTER
Where/When: 2:30 and 8 p.m. Saturday and 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Theatre of Western Springs, 4384 Hampton Ave.
Why Go: "The Lion in Winter” by James Goldman closes this weekend.
Pricing: $18-$20.
3. BEDS PLUS PROM
Where/When: 8 p.m. Saturday at Village Club of Western Springs, 4221 Lawn Ave.
Why Go: Put on your favorite retro prom dress, powder blue tux or dancing shoes and come dance the night away to the best old school tunes from the '70s, '80s and '90s. This fundraiser features (spiked) punch, a rocking dance floor, fabulous deserts, a cash bar, and a king and queen chosen from the crowd. 4. KICKIN' JIMMY
Where/When: 8:30 p.m. Saturday at Kenny's Irish Pub, 917 W. 55th St., Countryside.
Why Go: Due to the great turnout last time Kenny's is having the band back for an encore performance.
Pricing: $5 cover charge.
5. WEST SUBURBAN CONCERT BAND
Where/When: 7 p.m. Saturday at Gurrie Middle School, 1001 S. Spring Ave., La Grange.
Why Go: Selections include "Suite of Old American Dances" by Robert Russell Bennett, "Three Dances from Henry VIII" by Sir Edward German, "Light Cavalry Overture" by Franz von Suppe, musical highlights from "The Lion King," and a medley of Latin dances entitled "Fiesta Tropicale." March aficionados will be treated to the old class "Hostrauser's March," Karl King's colorful "The Melody Shop" and the elegant "Knightsbridge March" from Great Britain.
