Storm Strips Village of Power Again, Cancels Board Meeting

A ComEd spokesman called the storm "the worst in decades" for power outages; nearly a million ComEd customers lost power.

Monday night's meeting of the Western Springs Board of Trustees (scheduled for 7 p.m.) has been cancelled due to a continuing power outage at Village Hall and the Western Springs Police Station.

The 75-mph winds that ripped through the Village early Monday morning uprooted several trees and cut off power to much of Field Park and Old Town. It was the to cause severe tree damage in the Village in the last three weeks.

A ComEd spokesman said that it was "too early to tell" when power would be restored, adding that the storm was the worst in decades and it will take days to restore power everywhere.

A total of 817,000 customers lost power Monday morning and 561,000 still did not have service as of 3 p.m., according to the spokesman.

The Village of Western Springs website reported that ComEd had told them that the storm "caused extensive damage that is expected to result in a multiple day restoration effort.

"They have approximately 450 crews involved in restoration and have requested support from contractors in neighboring states to provide assistance to their crews," read the statement.

Because of the power outage, the weekly release of the Western Springs police blotter has also been delayed.

It is unknown to when the cancelled Board meeting will be rescheduled.

All power outages and downed lines can be reported to ComEd at the number 1-800-334-7661.
