Fireworks Display Lights Up the Night Thursday

Baby, you’re a firework: The Park District of La Grange joins forces with the city of Countryside Thursday for afireworks display welcoming the dog days of summer. The fun starts at 6:30 with an opening musical act, followed at 7 p.m. by a two-hour set from the Piano Man. Fireworks are scheduled to begin around 9:15 p.m. Bring your own snacks or buy a slice from Ledo’s Pizza, which will also be selling drinks and dessert. The event takes place at Countryside Park, 630 61st Street in Countryside. Additional parking and viewing space is available at City Park, which is at 60th and Ashland. Questions? Veterans memorial closer to reality: Fundraising is underway for the Community Park District of La Grange Park’s proposed veterans memorial. In less than four weeks, the park district has raised about $27,000 toward the $85,000 it hopes to gather by year’s end. Read more about it in the park district’s blog.

Plan your football viewing: Plan your tailgates now. Lyons Township High School has released its 2013 football schedule. The season kicks off with a home game Aug. 30 against Warren. Mark your calendars for the Oct. 12 Homecoming game against Oak Park-River Forest.
