Western Springs PD Giving Away Gun Locks

The Western Springs Police Department is participating in the nationwide Project ChildSafe gun safety program.

Gun owners in Western Springs can pick up a free gun lock at the Western Springs Police Department.

The department is participating in a firearms safety program known as Project ChildSafe, which according to the village's website is "a nationwide program whose purpose is to promote safe firearms handling and storage practices among all firearms owners through the distribution of key safety education messages and free gun locking devices (firearms safety kits)."

The locks are cable-style gun locks that the village says meet standards set out by the American Society for Testing and Materials.

The Western Springs Police Department is located at 740 Hillgrove Ave.
