1930's Forest Hills School Bus Carries Students to Grand Avenue School

Old photo shows life of school children before the Depression.

One of the best things about being a volunteer at the Western Springs Historical Society is when people bring in unique items or photos to donate.

Last Saturday, Betty Rindell Ackerman donated this photo of a bus of kids riding down Woodland Avenue in the early 1930s.   Forest Hills residents chipped in to get a bus to take the kids to Grand Avenue school, though the service stopped as the Depression worsened.

See the little girl peeking out with the big smile? That's Betty!
