Patch Picks: 5 Local Nonprofit Organizations Making a Difference

These agencies, based near or in La Grange, La Grange Park and Western Springs, collectively bring hope to people (and their furry best friends) of all ages.

Nonprofit organizations are one of the staples of a healthy community, and the Lyons Township area is filled with some of the best around. Here are five of those you should be aware of, wherever your place in life (or even species)!

One organization is putting the “able” in disabled. Helping Hand, Countryside. The Helping Hand Center strives to bring persons with disabilities their highest level of independence. For over 50 years they have provided training and rehabilitative services to children, teens and adults.

Your friends can only do so much. , La Grange. For over 80 years Pillars has provided mental health and social services to people of all ages. Pillars serves thousands of people in 8 locations to over 30 communities.

It’s not about getting “older” it’s about getting “better.” , La Grange. Aging Care Connections serves adults aged 60 and older and their families with programs and services that promote independence. Case managers advise families and individuals of available programs, services, and resources available.

 Giving low income families a shot. , La Grange. For 90 years, the staff of the Community Nurse Health Association has provided health care and social services to working families. The organization is a primary care health care and dental care provider for families in 14 area communities.

Dogs' best friend. , Burr Ridge/Countryside. This unique business, owned by Community Support Services, teaches people with disabilities to care for canines and gain much needed job skills. In addition to doggie day-care, boarding and training, The Chicago Canine Club cares for rescue dogs. You can visit rescue dogs at their partner business The Barker Shop in Countryside.
