Patch Roundup: Subway Robbed at Gunpoint, Man Killed in Plane Crash

A lot of Patch coverage this week was focused on Thanksgiving-themed topics, but there were certainly also major events throughout the west-suburban Chicago area that didn't have to do with turkey (or your meal of choice.)

Out in the further west, we found some negative news with a scary robbery and a tragic plane accident; closer to the city, we have more on the positive side with a lucky attic find and an inspirational fundraiser. And in-between, a nude guy, a fake kidnapping and a crazy cool high-school lip-dub!

Batavia——A man brandishing an automatic handgun robbed a Subway store on Wednesday afternoon; police have released a still image of the robber.

St. Charles——The 69-year old Hampshire resident was the sole occupant of the plane; the plane appears to have crashed during takeoff.

La Grange——The copy of the famous Amazing Fantasy #15, the first-ever appearance of the famous web-slinger, was verified at a comic store in La Grange.

Western Springs——A fundraiser was held Saturday for LT graduate Josh Misiewicz, who lost both legs and shattered both eardrums on July 20 when he stepped on a buried improvised explosive device while on patrol in Afghanistan.

Hinsdale——One man allegedly tried to physically prevent a female family member from calling police; another is accused of throwing a plateful of food at a family member.

Burr Ridge——Village of Burr Ridge leaders have praised the new restaurant, which serves up steaks, seafood and more.

Elmhurst——Staff at an Elmhurst hotel say the man wandered out of a bathroom clothes-free, then somehow disappeared.

Downers Grove——A grandmother recieved a phone call demanding a $3,000 ransom for her grandaughter, who had not actually been kidnapped.

Glen Ellyn——Glen Ellyn is being forced to consider why their municipally-owned golf course is lucrative, yet its food service division is conistently in the red.

Lisle——A five-year legal battle over billing inequity and dangerous conditions associated with water systems may continue even after a lawsuit was thrown out of court for the fifth time.

Wheaton——The City of Wheaton will condemn more than 100 fireplaces in the Briarcliffe Knolls condos after defective equipment caused two fires there.

Geneva—!—More than 600 Geneva High School students and 40 clubs participated in the making of a massively awesome lip-dub.
