Patch Roundup: Arrest Nine Hours After Release, Accused Child Murderer "Doesn't Understand"

Also this week: a Batavia man's confession of a bank robbery, an update on the child-pornography arrest at Wheaton College and a long-awaited fresh market is set to arrive in Elmhurst.

Sometimes there's just no explaining crime. What prompts a man, nine hours free from the Mount Sterling Correctional Facility, to take an Amtrak train to Clarendon Hills and bust into a seemingly random house? Or the terrible murder in Indian Head Park last October, in which the man accused now claims to understand nothing about his situation?

If you can make sense out of any of it, please leave a comment for the benefit of all your fellow readers, and us, too. And, as usual, if criminal news is just too depressing for you, try our stories about a new fresh market in Elmhurst or a delightful model-train project in Western Springs, or help Wheaton memorialize the great John Belushi.
