Patch Roundup: Bank Robbery in Elmhurst, Fatal Shooting in Oak Park

Also this week: fires in Downers Grove and the Tri Cities, and celebrity news from Western Springs, Lisle and Geneva.

We're reshuffling some of our content here at Patch, and so Patch Roundup, which used to run at the beginning of the weekend, is moving to the end. Don't worry, though: we'll still be here to bring you the highlights (and, sadly, often the lowlights) of the western Chicago suburbs each week.

It's lowlights that lead this week, with the FBI saying that guy seen to your right is likely responsible for two bank robberies since April, the latest in Elmhurst last Monday. And just from Sunday, on the eastern side of our roundup range, a young man was shot to death in the street for reasons still under investigation.

Check out any or all of the following:

Elmhurst—FBI says robber is the same man who robbed a bank in Bensenville April 2.

Oak Park/River Forest——A 25-year-old Chicago man was found shot to death near the Oak Park-Chicago border. No arrests have been made.

Downers Grove—An early morning house fire on Saturday in the 4700 block of Florence Avenue caused an estimated $175,000 in damage, fire officials said.

Batavia——A 60-year-old man was last seen on June 12. He told his family he was headed to Chicago for a meeting.

Lisle——The six-time PGA Tour Player of the Year will play at an outing hosted by the university at Cantigny Golf on June 25.

Wheaton—Police charge Plainfield man with driving under the influence of drugs following Wednesday evening incident involving Lombard motorcyclist.

Western Springs——A star of movies like "Rambo: First Blood" and "Tommy Boy," and a veteran stage actor currently in the Goodman’s "The Iceman Cometh," Dennehy spoke to a crowd of over 350.

Burr Ridge—

After Patch ran a story about a plaque being commissioned in honor of a late swim club coach, several of his former students shared their memories of Bryan "Beanie" Bateman. An Olympic trial qualifier was taught how to swim by Bateman and his mother.

Glen Ellyn—The 56-year-old resident faces criminal trespass and criminal damage to property charges.

St. Charles——St. Charles officials criticized a market report outlining the issues facing a stagnant Charlestowne Mall, complaining the information presented contained no new information.

Geneva——Sightings, Twitter posts and Facebook testimonials say one of America's hottest couples might be renting in sleepy, enchanting Geneva for a few months.

La Grange/La Grange Park—Trustees in La Grange have asked village staff to get them more information about adding an amusement tax onto tickets sold by the La Grange Theatre.

Hinsdale/Clarendon Hills——Honored by the Congresswoman at her Hinsdale home Tuesday night were current and future cadets, as well as two recent graduates, of the United States Military, Naval, Air Force, Coast Guard, and Merchant Marine academies.

My understanding was that the village only bought it so they could split the back yard off from theRead More main lot use the back lot for some kind of village use with the rec center and then sell off the house. The original lot used to go all the way back to the rec center.
