Hinsdale——Christmas came early for six HCS Family Services client families in DuPage County, who received at least $5,000 each in gifts from Gibson Consulting. Two families got brand new cars.

Lisle——The Lisle Police Department and the Lisle-Woodridge Fire Department joined with a local volunteer organization to welcome Private First Class Anthony Rossi back to the States with a caravan and homecoming celebration.

Elmhurst——Four shoppers received a special holiday surprise when their layaway purchases were paid for by anonymous donors.

Downers Grove——Police are using a state grant to fund an extra effort to get drunk drivers off the road between now and Jan. 1.

St. Charles——Police used specially trained 18-year-old agents to check 15 businesses for liquor license compliance earlier this month.

Burr Ridge——The next court hearing for the man accused of murdering 14-year-old Kelli O'Laughlin in her home in Indian Head Park is scheduled for Jan. 5.

La Grange——The Lewandowski family is building their new home with environmentally sustainable materials and hopes to be La Grange's first LEED-certified house.

Batavia—Methane gas was discovered under Batavia's north side industrial park, near two former landfill sites, officials announced this week and Kane County leaders continue to closely monitor gas readings in the nearby Batavia Highlands residential neighborhood.

Geneva——The methane issue is also a matter of concern in Geneva, where officials formally notified residents 23 days after learning about it. A report says methane was found in an industrial park but "there has been no indication of methane gas spreading toward Geneva."
