Reverse Osmosis Update: Clean in Place Procedure Should Start Next Week

Village waits on one piece of equipment to prepare wells #3 and #4 for the clean in place procedure.

The Village of Western Springs plans to be operating off of the permanent chemical system through day tanks and should have all clean in place (CIP) equipment for wells #3 and #4 installed by the end of this week, according to the village.

The village's two reverse osmosis units were running to distribution over the weekend, and well #4 operated for about four days before it needed to be cleaned.

Amiad technicians found earlier this week that the village's service pumps were overheating, causing a pressure drop, "Due to pumps starting up in a dead head situation from their feed line before the valve opened," according to the village.

The village will adjust programming for the timing of the startup and when the valve opens on the SCADA system to minimize the situation, according to the village.

The bulk tanks still need a few connections, but operation through the day tanks will allow the full SCADA system to control the chemical feeds, as opposed to operators controlling it by hand, as they have been operating, according to the village.

"Assuming that the final piece of equipment arrives and is installed tomorrow, the Village should be on track to conduct the CIP sometime early next week."
