Strong Storms Head Toward Western Springs

Storms could bring half-inch diameter hail and heavy rains to Western Springs, according to the National Weather Service.

The National Weather Service issued a local weather alert at 11:30 a.m. Friday.

Doppler radar is showing a strong line of thunderstorms over Aurora, and it's headed this way at about 30 miles per hour.

The storm contains half-inch hail, winds greater than 40 miles per hour, continuous cloud-to-ground lightning and heavy downpours.

"Gusty winds may cause small objects … to blow around. Stay away from high objects such as trees. Heavy rainfall could lead to standing water on roadways and poor visibility. Seek shelter in a sturdy structure until these storms have passed."
