Local veterans are leading ceremonies honoring the fallen and those who served in the armed forces throughout LaGrange and Western on Memorial Day, observed on Monday May 26.
The Robert E. Coulter, Jr. American Legion Post 1941, of LaGrange is hosting a series of progressive ceremonies at area cemeteries. The day starts at 8:30 a.m. at Lyons Township High School at 100 S Brainard Ave. in LaGrange, with the ringing of the bell honoring those LaGrange-area residents who gave their lives in service to our country, from the Civil War to present day.
Following this service, there will brief memorial services at the following locations:
- Parkholm Cemetery - 9:15 AM
- Lyonsville Cemetery - 10:00 AM
- St. John's Cemetery - 10:45 AM
- Hodgkins Memorial site - 11:00 AM
- Countryside Memorial Park - 11:45 AM

The final ceremony will be held at the American Legion Post Home, at 900 South La Grange Road, at approximately 12 noon. Coulter Post members who reported to the Post Everlasting will be remembered at that time. Refreshments will be served immediately following this service.
All ceremonies are open to the public and residents from the various local communities are encouraged to attend any or all of these services.

Join VFW Post 10778 for the annual Memorial Day parade starting at 10 a.m.
The parade route has changed this year, and will now start on Hillgrove Avenue near the Theatre of Western Springs. The route will stay north of the tracks on Hillgrove Avenue to north on Grand Avenue, east on Chestnut Avenue, south on Lawn Avenue and end at the Tower Green. All non-political community organizations and scout units are invited to march. The lineup will begin at 9:30 a.m. Bands from local schools will be marching and a brief ceremony will be held at the Tower Green following the parade. For more information, contact 708-205-3451.
