Western Springs Christmas Walk Promises a Wealth of Holiday Fun

This year’s Western Springs Christmas Walk will feature “lots of good old-fashioned Christmas stuff,” Walk chairman John Montalto is promising.

Hosted by the Western Springs Business Association, the Walk will run from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. in downtown Western Springs and feature the official lighting of the Village Christmas Tree at 4:00 p.m., along with visits from Santa and a host of other attractions and activities.

“Absolutely everything is [new,]” said Montalto, of John Montalto Hair & Spa. “Last year they had a laser light show for the 125th, and I was thinking about it and thinking, ‘well, I’m going to have something to top that,’ because that was a really good show.

“This, I think, is going to put rings around that, because this is going to be so much different from the last year, and the year before that.”

Highlights this year include caroling, campfires, mascots of a snowman and a (certain famous) reindeer, face-painting, cookies, cocoa and candy canes, hot cider, a photographer, a DJ and a show from magician Frankie Ace.

Downtown businesses like Vie, Mecenat, Beautiful Beginnings and more will be hosting the food and fun. According to the official poster, “special Christmas Walk dinner deals” will also be offered for local restaurants.

Santa, the big red fellow himself, will be at Heartland Bank from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., and then outside Tower Green from 4:30 p.m. on, to hold counsel with wishful youngsters.

“It should be a lot of fun,” Montalto pledged.

The weather is also forecasted to be unseasonably warm.

After the Christmas Walk, locals may also be interested in heading over to the La Grange Hometown Holiday, with business open houses running from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.
