What I Learned from Dad: Father's Day Tribute

Your dad is one of your earliest teachers, whether it's holding your hand as you take
your first tentative steps or offering his fatherly wisdom as you head off to kindergarten.

In honor of Father's Day, Patch asked readers to tell us in one sentence the most important lesson they learned from their dad. (Some readers used more, but the sentiments were so darn sweet I couldn't bear to edit them down.)

Erika Andersen Joyner: How to be humble and give back. But most importantly how to be a great parent! He was my hero and I miss him very much...3 years gone now

Christine Demma Foushi: Be sure you know how to put it back together before you take it apart

La Grange Business Association: You learn more from your failure than from your success.

Della Adams Timmermann: Put your hummingbird brain in gear before you put your alligator mouth in motion (I still need reminders).

Thomas O'Dowd: Stay in school.

Pam Fry: How to budget money.

Kathy Armstrong Omelka: "Keep your chin up!"

Dasha Ott: Know when to ask for help. You don't have to know everything you just need to know someone who does!
