'Heat Plan' in Place at Lyons Township High School

Students at Lyons Township High School will be able to take water into classrooms and extra water breaks as the school responds to the extreme temperatures in the area.

According to a message on the LT website, the high temperatures have prompted the school to put its "heat plan" into place.

• Allowed for and encouraged more liberal use of bottled water in the classroom and trips to the water fountains and, consequently, more needed trips to the washrooms
• Teachers may be moved to an air-conditioned room or space, provided space is available
• Creative use of facilities by taking air-conditioned spaces (e.g. the Corral, band rooms, auditoriums, etc.) and created "mini-classrooms" with tables and folding chairs, providing the Main Offices with more options to meet the demand of more requests for air-conditioned space
• Non-instructional air-conditioned areas (e.g. the Board Room, the Associate Principals' offices) have been, when possible, repurposed and utilized as destinations for teachers with smaller class sizes 
• Relaxed the dress code for students and staff to allow for cooler and more comfortable clothing
• South Campus received special permission from the Western Springs Fire Department to open the emergency windows, thus greatly improving the flow of air and dramatically lowering the air temperature in the classrooms and hallways.
