La Grange Experimenting with Free Valet in Downtown

The current program runs through the end of January on Friday and Saturday nights; the $3,500 monthly cost is split by the Village and the Business Association.

Visitors to downtown La Grange can enjoy a valet service, subsidized by the Village and the La Grange Business Association, on Fridays and Saturdays through the end of this month, free of charge except for tips, The Doings La Grange reports.

According to the paper, the program is meant to push cars to locations further away from the downtown center south of the tracks to free up space for customers; the Village estimates $200 extra a day in sales to local businesses per extra parking space.

“It’s not that La Grange doesn’t have enough spaces; it’s just human nature that everyone wants the closest spot, and that causes problems,” new LGBA President Steve Jasinski told the paper. “We’re trying to think outside the box.”

The service is offered on Fridays and Saturdays after 3:00 p.m. between Prasino and Francesca's Bellaza and also after 5:00 p.m. between Nicksons and Santiago's.
