Perhaps feeling Mariano’s breathing down its neck, Jewel-Osco Stores is rolling out 14 remodels across the Chicago area, including locations in LaGrange Park and Countryside.
The newly remodeled stores will open their doors at 8 a.m. Wednesday, and have been redesigned to offer a “more comfortable shopping experience,” according to a company news release.
Expect to run into a few politicians and Jewel-Osco executives at Wednesday’s re-grand openings, as the final touches are put on the “next generation of the new Jewel-Osco,” the company said.
The 14 remodeled locations have been refreshed with new self-service salad bars and new juice bars, expanded hot and cold food stations, a deli carving station, and expanded bakeries offering a fresh baked breads, muffins and bagels, and gourmet desserts.
Meat and Seafood departments include live lobster tanks, and natural and antibiotic-free chicken and seafood, which the company says can be seasoned and steamed for no additional cost.
“Jewel-Osco Signature Items” will also debut across all store locations, showcasing a selection of goods from each fresh department that are specially made on site every day, such as cookies and bread from the bakery, deli-fried chicken and store-baked carving turkey breast.

The New Albertsons Inc.-owned grocery chain has 185 Jewel-Osco stores in Illinois, Indiana and Iowa, and employes over 31,000 employees, according to the company’s website.
