Walgreens Now 'Takes Care' of Chronic Illnesses

Through an expansion of its Take Care Clinics, Walgreens now offers treatment and management for chronic conditions such as diabetes and asthma.

Walgreens has announced that more than 330 of its Take Care Clinics have expand to offer new health care services to assess, treat and manage chronic conditions including hypertension, diabetes, high cholesterol and asthma, according to a company statement.

With this service expansion, Take Care Clinics now provide the most comprehensive service offering within the retail clinic industry, and can play an even more valuable role in helping patients get, stay and live well,” said Dr. Jeffrey Kang, senior vice president of health and wellness services and solutions, Walgreens.

Take Care providers can evaluate, recommend and order preventive health services such as screenings or lab tests, based on a patient’s age, gender and family history.

The clinics also can help monitor blood sugar or blood pressure levels when the regular doctor's office is closed or the patient can't get there, reported the Associated Press.
