Walgreens Partnership with Drug Wholesaler to Benefit Customers

Walgreens is poised to become the global leader in prescription pharmaceuticals.

Deerfield-based Walgreens and Alliance Boots, a leading international pharmacy-led health and beauty group, have entered into a 10-year contract with pharmaceutical company AmerisourceBergen that will allow Walgreens to able to buy and sell generic drugs at a lower cost than anyone else, reported Crain's Chicago Business.

This relationship will result in greater sales, improved service levels and efficiencies, while reducing costs and increasing patient access to pharmaceuticals, according to a Walgreens press release.

"We believe this relationship will creat a wide range of opportunities and innovations in the rapidly changing U.S. and global health care environment that we expect will benefit all of our stakeholders," stated Gregory Wasson, President and Chief Executive Officer of Walgreens.
