Whew...it's HOT! Do you know what signs to look for in someone who may be suffering from heat exhaustion, or worse...heat stroke. Read this quick article to find out!

It's IMPOSSIBLE to blog about anything else these days.  HEAT!!!  I love summer in Chicago just like everyone else...but, really?  How much of this inferno can a Midwesterner take??  In talking with patients about the heat and how to cope, it's been made dangerously obvious to me that many don't understand the potential dangers of heat, and signs to look for in someone suffering with heat exhaustion, or worse, heat stroke.  An EXTRA word of caution to those of you out there exercising; BE CAREFUL, and DON'T BE ALONE. Have someone with you who can keep an eye out for signs of trouble and take action if necessary.Heat danger signs:HEAT EXHAUSTION-  Confusion, fainting, fatigue, dizziness, headache, dark-colored urine, pale skin, profuse sweating, rapid heartrateWhat to Do??-STOP ACTIVITY-Move to a cool, shaded or AC environment-Drink cool beverages, preferable water-No alcohol or caffeine-Cool cloths on the forehead, armpits and abdomenIf someone starts to have seizures, become unconscious, or stop sweating, call 911 or take them to the ER.  We can't beat the heat, but we can cope.  Stay hydrated, stay smart, and stay cool out there!
