Patch Picks: 5 Delicious And (Maybe) Nutritious Cocktails

Our readers were not shy about chiming in on their favorite drinks; some spicy, some sweet, all of them local favorites.

This week Patch Picks figures more than a few people are in the mood for (in need of) a good drink. If you’re storm-worn and/or your power died, let a bartender be your guide! It is an emergency after all.

Enjoy these local recommendations:

  1. It’s for a good cause. Sami Flanagan of Western Springs says she “re~eally likes” the (La Grange) Tree-tini. For every drink ordered, vendor Veev Spirits plants a tree in an Indian rain forest. It’s made with açai berry liqueur, cranberry juice, fresh lime, fresh mint and sparkling water.
  2.  If there’s grapefruit in it, you can drink it for breakfast. Right? Molly Donofrio of Westmont swears by (Western Springs) grapefruit cocktail. “All of their drinks are fresh squeezed with lots of homemade syrups, bitters, etc.” Also high up on our readers’ list of favorites; bartender Mike’s spice-infused Humitos, Cosmopolitans, and Lemon Martinis.
  3.  It’s like Hawaii (but on a busy street). Julie Krzyzaniak of Western Springs recommends pineapple infused vodka drinks. “Their Pineapple Martinis go down like Kool-Aid.”
  4.  Wining is allowed. Patty Ptacek of Western Springs enjoys white sangria from . When pressed for the secret to their sangria’s success, she said “Not sure. It's the owner's daughter’s secret recipe. Only she is allowed to make it.” Sounds mysterious.
  5. Sugar and spice and everything nice. Western Springs resident and business owner Brenda Collins (The Tranquil Hand) loves the Pineapple Martini at in La Grange. What makes it taste so good? Her guess is “a hint of cumin [or] cardamon.”
