Pray for Peace

Join your neighbors in prayer.

My colleague at First Congregational Church asked me to share this important message with the community. Please make a note and consider joining us!

“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” (John 14:27)

In the wake of the news this summer, peace seems to elude us.  The shootings in the Colorado movie theatre.  The tragic murders at the Sikh temple in Wisconsin. Chicago is on track to reach 504 murders, or about 42 murders per month, if the current murder rate continues through 2012.  We worry, we fret and we become overwhelmed with the violence present in our world.  We ask ourselves, “What can we possibly do to end the violence”?  We can pray.  As a community of faith, a community that trusts that God is near and will hear our prayers, we can pray for peace.

The whole community is invited to come to the quiet of our Chapel, this Friday evening (August 10th), anytime between 5pm and 8pm to sit in a sacred place and lift your prayers to God for peace.  We encourage you to come as individuals, as families, as neighbors and friends….our chapel will be open to all who wish to pray.
