Authorities Investigate Western Springs, Elmhurst Bank Robberies

Both banks were robbed Monday afternoon.

Authorities are investigating two robberies that occurred Monday afternoon at First Merit banks in Western Springs and Elmhurst. 

A man robbed the First Merit Bank, 700 W. North Ave. in Elmhurst, at 1:14 p.m. on Monday before going on to rob the First Merit Bank, 5450 Wolf Road in Western Springs, at about 3:53 p.m., according to a Western Springs Police Department press release and BanditTrackerChicago.com

In the Western Springs bank robbery, a man implied he had a weapon but no weapon was displayed. He fled the bank on foot with an undetermined amount of cash in a small black bag, according to the press release. 

No one was injured in the robbery. Law enforcement officers from several agencies responded and assisted with the search for the suspect but the man was not located, according to the news release. 

BanditTrackerChicago.com reports authorities believe the man was also involved in the Elmhurst First Merit Bank earlier Monday afternoon. 

The suspect is described as being a white male between 40 to 50 years old, 6 feet tall and he was wearing a tan baseball cap, dark sunglasses, brown jacket and blue jeans at the time of the robbery, according to the news release. 

An investigation continues into both robberies. 

Anyone with information regarding the robberies should contact the Chicago office of the FBI at 312-421-6700. A reward is being offered, according to BanditTrackerChicago.com.
