La Grange Park police report that they have arrested two man involved in a burglary on the 1400 block of Scotdale Road in La Grange Park on Thursday afternoon.
Fernando Gonzales, 30, homeless, and Felipe Martinez, 21, of the 2600 block of S. Komensky Avenue, Chicago, were each charged with a Class 1 felony for residential burglary. Police had responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle around 1:00 p.m.
According to La Grange Park police, the men were located sitting in a van on the 1600 block of La Grange Road with burglary tools and items from the burglarized house on Scotdale, where a rear door had been pried open. (No one was home during the incident.)
The suspects have also been tied to a burglary in Westchester, according to Westchester police, for which charges are pending.
In a press release, La Grange Park Police Chief Dan McCollum lauded the unnamed resident who reported the suspicious vehicle.
"We encourage people to report suspicious activity and be nosey neighbors," McCollum said in the release. "In this case, we may never have captured the two without the assistance of a concerned resident.”
Both suspects are due in Chicago bond court on Saturday.
