Hinsdale Houseguest Revived After Christmas Eve Heart Attack

Hinsdale Fire Department Capt. Dave DeWolf said it was a Christmas the department "will never forget."

A guest at a Hinsdale Christmas Eve party was revived by paramedics after going into full cardiac arrest last week, according to a release from the Hinsdale Fire Department sent out Monday.

At approximately 10:40 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 24., Southwest Central Dispatch Center received a 911 call from a Hinsdale resident on East 6th Street who said a house guest appeared to be having a heart attack. The two paramedics from the Hinsdale Fire Department arrived to find the man, who is in his 50s, unresponsive on a staircase in the home.

“The residents and other guests stated that the man hadn’t been feeling well and was about to go home when he decided to sit on the steps,” the fire department release reads.

Responders determined the man was in full cardiac arrest, moved him to the floor and began to administer CPR, and a shock was delivered that resulted in the man regaining his consciousness.. An engine company arrived to provide additional support. He was transported to Adventist Hinsdale Hospital, where his condition stabilized. Several days later, the fire department release states, he walked out of the hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.

“We train for situations like this one all the time, however, we never expected a call like this on Christmas Eve,” stated Captain Dave DeWolf. “We’re just happy for the positive outcome and I’m sure this is a Christmas we will never forget.”
