“Grandchild” Scam

The La Grange Park Police Department reported at 1:19 p.m. that in a recent incident, a La Grange Park grandfather was contacted by someone pretending to be his grandson asking for money; the man was not fooled by the ruse.

Police cautioned the community to beware of callers addressing “Grandpa” or “Grandma” and saying they urgently need money, perhaps for bail, and “not to tell Mom or Dad.” According to La Grange Park police, a woman in a nearby community was recently conned out of $35,000 in this scam.
