Man Perched Atop Fountain Busted with Drugs: Police

The man spent several minutes shouting at passers by before officers got him to climb down from the fountain.

A Westmont man’s Friday night plans went from high to low after police said he climbed the fountain in downtown La Grange while carrying drugs.

Edward H. Krol, 26, stood on the top tier of the recently replaced fountain around 10:10 p.m., shouting at passers by, police said.

It took some convincing to get Krol out of the fountain. He at first refused to climb down, police said, but eventually settled into the pool of water at the fountain’s base before exiting completely.

Krol struggled with the officers, telling them he wouldn't be arrested, police said.

Officers eventually subdued him and found he had on him a substance suspected to be marijuana and a pipe for smoking it, police said.
