Lawnmower Hit and Run

A car parked in Village Lot 12, 536 East Avenue, had damage consistent with being hit by a large lawnmower around 7:40 p.m., police said. The car was parked next to the grass in the southwest side of the lot.

Old License Plate Leads to New Red-Light Tickets

A woman in the 200 block of Columbine threw out an old license plate, but someone else appears to be using it, she said. She has received a red-light ticket in the mail from the city of Chicago, she said. Police told her to dispute the ticket since the old plate is no longer valid.

Women Caught Re-tagging Items at Self Checkout

Police charged Ana Escobar, 33, of Chicago and Perla Hoyos, 27, of Berwyn with theft around 6 p.m. at Walmart, 1300 Des Plaines Ave. 

A store employee told police she saw the two women at two self checkout counters, scanning items using price tags from other items, police said. The employee said Escobar scanned several clothing items, a curling iron and light bulbs using a stick-on price tag that she transferred from item to item as she scanned, police said.

The employee stopped the women, took them to security and found Escobar had used a price tag for a $1 mug and scanned seven items worth a total of about $92, and Hoyos had used a tag for a $0.78 shampoo to scan for seven items worth about $110, police said. 

Escobar was given a local ordinance citation for retail theft, re-tag. Hoyos was processed on the same charge, given a July 16 court date and released on bond.

Man Gets Away With Condoms, Pregnancy Tests in Theft

A man stole $143 in crabmeat, condoms, pregnancy tests and laundry detergent from Dominick's, 259 Lake St., around 7:30 p.m., police said. Most of the items he stole were found in an alley in the 100 block of North Humphrey Avenue, except for three boxes of condoms and two pregnancy tests, police said. 

Woman Arrested for Stealing $127 in Earrings

Police charged Delora Johnson, 22, of Maywood with retail theft after she stole $127 in earrings from a display at Claire's, 407 N. Harlem Ave., around 2:30 p.m. She was processed and held on bond.
