OMG PD: Lotto Ticket Leads to Big Loss, Man Plays Ball with Mailboxes

LA GRANGE

‘MERP’ on Garage

Police reported at 8:37 a.m. that the lobby of the La Grange parking garage at 80 6th Avenue had been vandalized with spray paint and stickers. The vandalism included profanity and the word “merp.”

Laundry Machines Rigged

A resident from the 900 block of 8th Avenue reported to police at 10:03 a.m. that the Village Venice laundry machines had been being rigged to avoid coin payments. Police said that a follow-up established that several coin-operated machines had been tampered with and have subsequently been repaired.

Mailbox Baseball

A complainant advised at 8:01 p.m. that someone in a gold Saturn four-door drove down the 700 block of Mason Drive and hit all of the mailboxes with a baseball bat, then headed toward Carriage Lane. At least one mailbox on the 1200 block of Carriage Lane was also damaged. The damage to the Carriage Lane mailbox was estimated at $100.

DOWNERS GROVE

Car Stolen During Lotto Purchase

A 2002 Ford Explorer was stolen from a gas station in the 2200 block of Ogden Avenue in Downers Grove while the driver was inside purchasing a lottery ticket, police said. 

The car owner told police it was around 9:35 p.m. when he left his keys in the vehicle with the engine running and went inside the gas station to purchase the ticket, according to reports. 

The man said he was inside for approximately five minutes when he saw someone driving away with his vehicle, police said.

HINSDALE

Cocaine Found at Gas Station

Three small bags filled with a substance that field-tested positive for cocaine were found by an employee near the cash register of the Shell station at 210 E. Ogden Ave. at 11:30 p.m., police said.

The bags, which were approximately 1 inch by 1 inch, were located near a rack of merchandise close to the gas station’s registers. An investigation was pending at the time of the report.
