Alcohol, Texting Factored into Rollover Crash on Burlington: Police

Alcohol and texting were involved in a rollover crash that sent three teenage boys to the hospital last week with minor injuries, Western Springs police said.

Steven J. Heilenbach, 19, of the 4400 block of Clausen Avenue, was texting around 8:47 a.m. when the SUV he was driving rolled off the road and hit a curb and tree in the 200 block of Burlington, police said.

Heilenbach and his two passengers, Matthew T. Pingel, 19, of the 1100 block of E. Cambri Lane in Lombard, and Nicholas J. Scarpaci, 19, of the 0-99 block of Burlington Avenue in Western Springs, left the scene of the crash on foot before police arrived, according to the report. READ MORE

LA GRANGE

Tree on Porch

Someone dug a tree out of the parkway in front of a home the 300 block of South 6th Avenue and put it on the resident’s porch, police said. The tree wasn’t damaged and will be replanted.

(Illegal) Fireworks Mark Blackhawks Win

Fierworks were set off around 10:49 p.m. in the 600 block of South 7th Avenue, around 10:23 p.m in the 800 block of South Kensington and around 10 p.m. near the intersection of 41st and Drexel, police said. Officers were unable to locate the people who ignited them.

Police Officer Injured during Confrontation at La Grange Carnival

A La Grange police officer was injured last week while trying to arrest a man who was harassing women at the La Grange Carnival, police said.

Several young women reported that Martel Aguilar, 20, of the 900 block of South La Grange Road, was inappropriately hitting on them near the intersection of Harris and Madison around 8:45 p.m., police said. Aguilar fled from police when they tried to arrest him and injured an officer in the process, police said. The officer was transported to La Grange Memorial Hospital. He was released but his recovery is ongoing. READ MORE

Pot Smoker Arrested for Giving a Fake Name

A 30-year-old Maywood man caught smoking pot outside in Forest Park faces obstruction charges after he repeatedly told police his name was Tony, police said. 

Responding to a call about suspicious people in the 7400 block of Washington Street, police found Eddie Terry, 30, of Maywood and a 27-year-old Forest Park man smoking pot outside, police said. READ MORE

Street Flutist Tells Cop, 'I'll be Back' 

A Forest Park flutist was charged with resisting arrest and more following an incident in a parking lot at Thomas and Madison. Police said Steven N. West, 55, of Forest Park, was soliciting money for playing the flute at about 9:30 p.m. When asked to leave, West reportedly told police, “I’ll go, but I’ll be back in an hour.”

Man Nabs $16,000 in iPhones From Oak Park Business

A man accompanied by two women stole 21 iPhones—worth about $16,337—from a security locker in the back room of a store in the 900 block of Madison Street between 6:45 p.m. June 27 and 7:20 p.m. June 28.

Police said the man, in his 20s, was about six feet tall and wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt with white writing. He was with two women, one in her 20s and one in her 40s. The younger woman was about 5-foot-3, with black hair, blond highlights and a pierced lip. The older woman was about 5-foot-7 and wearing a scarf on her head.
