Police Blotter: $5,000 Debit Card Fraud, Clausen/Ogden DUI

Here's the Western Springs police blotter from May 2 through May 9.

Incidents/Reports

Monday, May 2, 2:00 p.m.; Leaving Scene of a Property Damage Accident: Somone hit and damaged the front end of a car on the upper level of Spring Rock Park sometime between 8:00 a.m. and 8:30 a.m.. The perpetrator left the scene. The damage was minor; no monetary value was estimated.

Thursday, May 5, 11:43 a.m.: Debit Card Fraud: A report from the 5000 block of Lawn Ave had an unknown person using a victim's debit card to make 54 purchases since April 21, totalling approximately $5,000.

Friday, May 6, 1:03 p.m.: Identity Theft: Reported from the 4900 block of Fair Elms Avenue, an unknown person used a resident's personal information to accumulate $1,368 in cable television service costs.

Monday, May 2, 10:52 p.m.; Driving While License Suspended: Matthew C. Benson, 21, of 1214 Hillgrove Ave., was stopped at the corner of Hillgrove Avenue and Central Avenue for a registration check on a suspicious vehicle and was arrested for driving with a suspended license.

Friday, May 7, 3:08 a.m.: No Valid Driver's License:  Jose E. Perez-Martinez, 46, of 7320 W. 58th St., Summit, was stopped for speeding at the corner of 55th Street and I-294 and charged with driving without a valid license.

Friday, May 7, 9:15 a.m.: Posession of Alcohol by a Minor: An 18-year-old Western Springs man was issued a local ordinance citation after police officers responding to a suspicious-activity call on the 4000 block of Lawn Avenue found several closed bases of beer in his backseat.

Saturday, May 8, 12:44 a.m.; DUI Alcohol, Speeding: Armando Araiza, 51, of 8333 44th St., Lyons, was stopped for speeding at the corner of Clausen Avenue and Ogden Avenu and found by an officer to have slurred speech and other symptoms of inebriation. After failing sobriety tests, Araiza was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol.
