Police Department Arrests Man for Felony Vehicle Theft

Suspect attempted to flee through residential yards before being arrested on the 3800 block of Johnson Avenue.

Western Springs police officers arrested a 38-year-old man on multiple felony charges Wednesday, including grand theft auto, following a 15-minute chase through the northwestern part of the Field Park neighborhood.

Zachery Bass, of 2160 Hamstrom Rd., Portage, IN was originally stopped for a minor traffic violation at the corner of Ogden Avenue and Wolf Road at about 11:00 a.m.

He attempted to flee the scene, sprinting through residential yards for 15 minutes before being caught by police officers on the 3800 block of Johnson Avenue, with no injury to any party.

Officials' investigation showed that the car Bass was driving had recently been stolen from a Westchester parking lot. He was also found in possession of tools designed for burglaries.

Bass was charged with possession of a stolen motor vehicle (a Class 2 felony), possession of burglary tools (a Class 4 felony), obstructing a peace officer and driving with a revoked license (both Class A misdemeanors) and failure to yield while driving.

He was also wanted on an outstanding arrest warrant from Kankakee County (two counties south of Cook).

Bass was transproted to the Cook County 5th District Court on Thursday with a bond set at $150,000 and a court date of October 6.
