Police Investigate Rollover Crash at Grand and 47th; No Apparent Major Injuries

While police have not yet completed a crash report, a brief statement and witness testimony paint a picture of the event.

Details have not been confirmed about a rollover two-car crash that occurred at approximately 10:45 p.m. on Thursday night at the corner of 47th Street and Grand Avenue, but a brief statement from Lt. Dave Dayoff of the Western Springs Police Department stated that no one was hospitalized following the crash.

“There is a report that the fire department was dispatched for a fire in one of the vehicles,” added Dayhoff in an e-mail.

Witnesses stated that they believed the crash was caused when a car travelling at an extreme speed down Grand Avenue was hit by a car travelling on 47th Street.

“We could hear really fast cars, screeching and honking, and heard them hit each other, really loud, from a few blocks away, and you could hear a car rolling [down Grand],” said teenage Woodland Avenue resident Daniel Lockie.

Lockie, along with friends Matt Mohler and Chris Swade, said the fast-travelling car rolled over as many as six times and travelled 50 feet down Grand Avenue south of 47th.

The teenagers said that one of their friends was involved in the crash and received several glass cuts to his face. The only property damaged appeared to be a stop sign on Grand south of 47th. The damage was cleaned up in less than 30 minutes.

“Everyone [involved] pretty much just walked away,” said Lockie.

Dayhoff also wrote that more information will be available next week when police completes an investigation and crash report.
