Police Thwart In-Progress Burglary in Western Springs

The teenage suspect was taken into custody at the scene and charged with residential burglary, police said.

Western Springs police stopped a home burglary in progress Friday afternoon when they apprehended a 15-year-old Melrose Park teen at the scene of the incident.

The teen had kicked in a rear basement door of an unoccupied home in the 1400 block of 39th Street before police responded to the burglary, according to the report.

After 30 minutes, officers convinced the teen to leave the house and took him into custody. Investigators found items that they said the teen intended to steal scattered inside the home.
