Western Springs Police Issue Burglary-Trend Alert

After four burglaries in one week, the Western Springs Police Department has warned residents to exercise caution and be sure to lock up.

The Village of Western Springs saw four burglaries in the past week (since Oct. 7), the Western Springs Police Department is reporting, prompting the Department to issue a community alert.

Three of the burglaries were to vehicles and the fourth was to to a residential home. (The three most recent burglaries are enumerated in our most recent Western Springs police blotter; the fourth in the previous week's blotter.)

All the burglaries took place in Forest Hills and Ridge Acres neighborhoods of Western Springs. All three car burglaries took place in the late night or early morning hours; the home burglary came between 10:20 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.

In all cases, the target of the burglary was unlocked; the home was vacant.

"The Police Department would like to remind residents to be extra vigilant," read the alert. "Please do not to leave any visible items such as purses, cell phones, lap top computers, MP3 players, portable GPS units, or backpacks in the interior of a parked and unattended vehicle. Completely secure your vehicle, even if you step away for only a few minutes.

"Also, remember to lock all residential first floor windows, doors, and garages whether you are home or not.  If possible, utilize exterior lighting and/or motion sensors."
