Driver Caught Using Cell Phone Charged

Cell Phone Offense Reported


Katie Hlis, 33, of the 4300 block of Central Avenue, Western Springs, was charged with driving while using a hand-held cellular device, driving with a suspended registration, and driving without insurance, police said, after a 2:15 p.m. traffic stop near the intersection of Woodland and Ogden avenues.

Police said Hlis was stopped after she was seen driving while holding a cell phone. A records check showed she was driving on suspended registration. She was released on bond to appear in court.

3 Teens Found With Pot


A 17-year-old female juvenile from Lyons, a 16-year-old male juvenile from La Grange, and a 16-year-old male juvenile from Hickory Hills were all charged with possession of cannabis and drug paraphernalia after an officer responding to a suspicious vehicle parked in the 4700 block of Commonwealth Avenue at 6:53 p.m. came upon the three inside the vehicle with a substance that appeared to be cannabis and a glass pipe.

The three were released to their parents.
