WSPD Hosting First Car Show Fundraiser for Special Olympics
Drop by Spring Rock Park this weekend to check out a wide variety of cars and help the Western Springs Police Department raise funds for Special Olympics Illinois.
The will take a novel and unique approach to its regular fundraising for Special Olympics Illinois on Sunday when they host a car show in , aptly named the “1st Annual Western Springs Police Department Cops and Rodders Car Show.”
The event, a first for the Department, has been organized by WSPD officers Terry Madler and Ken Lena and will feature both current police and fire vehicles along with various civilian cars and trucks, both modern and classic.
Funds will be raised through raffles (with prizes!), and 100 percent of the proceeds will go towards Special Olympics Illinois, the only organization for which the WSPD directly fundraises. (Special Olympics’ fundraising includes no government assistance and relies entirely on individual and corporate gifts.)

“We’re always looking for new and exciting ways to fundraise for Special Olympics,” said WSPD Lt. Dave Dayhoff of the new and distinctive event.
Food and music will be provided on-hand. Attendance is free. The event runs from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on July 15.

The Department also raises funds for Special Olympics by participating in the Law Enforcement Torch Run, a cross-state relay run by Illinois law-enforcement officers.
Fundraisers for Special Olympics Illinois enable 175 year-round competitions in 19 sports, with nearly 20,000 participants.
