Election 2013 Candidate: Dan Dolgner

Dan Dolgner is a candidate for the D106 Board.

Name: Dan Dolgner

Position Sought: District 106 (Lagrange Highlands) School Board

What will be your single most important priority if you get elected?: District 106 is facing a very critical era. Federal, State and County resources are stretched to a breaking point, and our local tax base is comprised primarily of residential properties already heavily taxed. The near term challenge will be to maintain a stellar educational system with existing resources, protecting current surpluses and fighting state attempts to consolidate districts and 'cost share' with much lower taxed areas.

Why are you seeking office?: I am seeking election to the District 106 School Board for the following reasons: service to my community; preservation and continued improvement of our outstanding educational offering; conservative stewardship of my fellow taxpayer's resources and protecting the local control of our public school system.

What sets you apart from the other candidates (if applicable)?: As a resident taxpayer and parent of two District 106 students, I am very similar to many of the other candidates. Strong business and organizational service experience are my key attributes. I have 25+ years of executive level business experience, combined with previous board positions with several industry and service organizations. This experience will serve well in negotiations, government relations and budgeting.

What are the other issues you plan to address in this position, and how?: With a new District Superintendent coming on board, it will be very important for the Board to provide support, while helping to manage her seamless integration into the role. District 106 provides outstanding service to our community. The outgoing Board Members have left the district in a strong position that I will continue to build on and improve.

Please add any other information pertinent to your campaign: I believe that a School Board's function is to direct the overall course of growth and improvement, responsibly manage the district's resources and provide the school's administrative leadership with the support required to provide superlative educational training. I do not believe that a School Board should attempt to manage daily operations or grossly interfere with the professionals we've chosen to educate our children.
