LG Board to Vote on Stone Avenue Station Renovation

The village has received six bids for the project, all significantly above an architect's estimate.

The La Grange Board of Trustees will vote at Monday night's meeting on whether to accept any of six bids offered for the renovation of the Stone Avenue train station, The Suburban Life reports.

According to the paper, bids range from $1.03 million to $1.3 million, while the project architect had given an estimate of about $875,000. The village has in hand for the project $385,000 from the West Suburban Mass Transit District and $700,000 in federal funding secured by Rep. Dan Lipinski.

The meeting starts at 7:30 p.m. at La Grange Village Hall.

Wasn't this station rehabbed just a couple of years ago? What's happening here?

I take it every day...the concrete edging was fixed, that’s all. These stations are keystones to each town-not some luxury to commuters. Hinsdale, Naperville, Arlington Heights, downtown Lagrange, people see them and say "man I'd like to live there". It's a fact, I’ve heard people mutter it. Stone Ave is a historically significant structure that needs to be rehabbed. If you don’t take the train, I get it, you don’t want to pay for it. But a lot of us who do work downtown, make more, pay more taxes and frankly I'd like to get a little return on my investment so to me, it's worth it with the added benefit of improving the town’s aesthetic.

On the other side of town, The Park District of La Grange at the exact same time is voting to spend millions of dollars of new taxpayer money (bonds) to refurbish 1/2 of Gordon Park. Wasn't the whole premise for the redevelopment 4 years ago that a "developer" was going to provide this money, not the taxpayer? Jim Boo
