Police Union May Sue Village Over New Position

The union representing the Western Springs Police Department feels an action being considered by the village would be unfair to current patrol officers.

The Metropollitan Alliance of Police, which represents the Western Springs Police Department is debating whether to take legal action against the village if it passes a budget amendment that would establish a fifth sergeant position and current patrol officers are not considered for it, reported The Doings Western Springs.

Passage of the amendment would mean current Deputy Chief Brian Budds would assume a dual role as patrol officer and sergeant with no additional pay, according to the article.

The union told The Doings it feels such action would set a dangerous precedent that smacks of favoritism and is unfair to officers with more experience.
