1st Day of School in D101 Could Be in September

The 2014-15 start date depends on whether or not the board approves a facility expansion plan in February.

The 2014-15 school year in District 101 would begin after Labor Day if a facility expansion project is approved next month, according to a statement posted on the district's website

If the board approves at its February 24 meeting the expansion project, which would expand learning spaces at each of District 101's three elementary schools and possibly relocate the board of education offices to make way for an instructional space at Field Park, next school year would begin on Sept. 2 and end on June 12.

If bids related to the expansion are over budget and the board passes, a more typical starting date of Aug. 20 will be recommended, with the end of the year on May 29.

"The board has released these two calendar options to allow District 101 families to begin advance planning for the upcoming school year," the district message reads.

The final 2014-15 calendar will be voted on by board members in March.

"Additionally, four parent and community forums are planned to provide much greater detail on the proposed building-expansion projects for interested individuals," the message reads. "Details on these four public information sessions will be released later this week, via posting to the front page of the district website, mailings to district families, and posting in our local newspapers."
