Three student-athletes from Nazareth Academy, Ellen Chiligiris (Downers Grove), Allison Kurek (Chicago) and Linnea Rohrsen (Chicago) have officially committed to continue their academic and athletic pursuits at Williams College in Massachusetts, Concordia University Wisconsin and Purdue University respectively.
Ellen Chiligiris plays ice hockey for Chicago Mission U19 which won state competition and was one of two top teams in the Midwest Region to participate in national competition in Boston last week, finishing third place in the country. Ellen is also an honor roll student at Nazareth.
“Ellen is an intelligent student who possesses a solid work ethic,” says Spanish teacher Dmitri Martinez. “She excels in virtually every task presented to her, able to effectively manage her time between academics and the ice rink. Ellen’s successes will most definitely continue beyond her time as a student at Nazareth.”
The Williams College Ephs participate in the NCAA Division III program and the New England Small College Athletic Conference.
Allison Kurek plays both ice hockey and lacrosse for Nazareth Academy, earning numerous accolades for both. In 2013 Allison was named IHSA Varsity All Star and ESPN High School Player of the Game for Hockey. She was also named to the 2014 IHSL All Conference Academic Team. Allison has played Lacrosse on a local and national level, earning Under Armour All American honors in 2012 and 2013, ESCC and IHSWLA All Conference honors in 2013, and Illinois High School All-State honors in 2013. Allison is a 2013 Triple-Impact Competitor Scholarship Award Finalist. She is also an “A” Honor Roll student at Nazareth. Concordia University teams play in the NCAA Division III program and are members of the Northern Athletics Conference.
Linnea Rohrsen has been an outstanding girls volleyball player where she has taken on the challenging role of libero. For 2013-2014, Linnea was named to both the ESCC All Conference and Suburban Life All Area teams as well as the All Tournament team at the Bradley Bourbonnais Invitational. “Linnea is a hard working defensive specialist who is all over the court. Not only does she play great defense, but she is also a great serve receiver,” says Head Volleyball Coach, Wayne Saunders. Linnea is also an “A” Honor Roll student at Nazareth. The Purdue Boilermakers are an NCAA Division I program.
