Winter break continues for Western Springs students.

Lyons Township High School, Western Springs School District 101, and LaGrange Highlands School District 106 all announced Monday afternoon that school will not be in session Tuesday due to the extreme cold.

"The combination of bitterly cold temperatures, no assurances that buses will function properly, and in an effort to keep students and staff safe, all after school activities are also cancelled and will be re-scheduled; this includes all athletic practices and club meetings," an email from LT District 204 Superintendent Tim Kilrea reads.

District 101 made its announcement on its homepage, as did District 106.

Kilrea's email also states that, according to Illinois school code, the missed day must be made up. A plan on how District 204 will do that will be communicated in the coming weeks.

Monday was supposed to be a teacher institute day and the last day of winter break for LT students. Instead, the institute day was canceled, as were all after-school activities.

School is expected to resume Wednesday, which is a late start day at LT. Classes will begin at 8:45 a.m.

Wednesday is a normal school day for District 101 students.
