Western Springs Teen Making Waves at the Shedd

Following a student summit on oceans and coasts, a Western Springs teen has helped to create a mentoring program at the Shedd Aquarium for fellow students interested in marine biology.

Fenwick High School junior Thatcher Creber, of Western Springs, has helped create a pilot program that gives high schoolers the unique opportunity to shadow employees at Chicago's Shedd Aquarium, reports The Doings Western Springs.

Creber and three other local students developed Shedd Start: A Career Experience as a result of their participation in a student summit on the oceans and coasts held at the Smithsonian in Washington D.C. in March., according to The Doings.

At Coastal America's forth annual Student Summit on the Oceans and Coasts, Creber and fellow students met and spoke with delegates from aquariums and marine centers all over the country, reported the Chicago Tribune. The students used this feedback to design the Shedd pilot program.
