34th Annual Western Springs Tower Trot

The Village of Western Springs and its Recreation Department will sponsor the 34th Annual Tower Trot on Saturday, May 28, 2010.  The 10K race (6.2 miles) starts at 8:30 a.m. and the 5K race (3.1 miles) starts at 9:30 a.m.  There are numerous open age categories and 18 resident age group categories for runners, and separate “Walker” category.  Also, the “Double” is for runners wishing to compete in both the 10K and 5K races.  Olympic style medallions are awarded to the top runners in each age group and division.   The START & FINISH for both races are at Forest Hills School, 51st & Central.

Preregistration is held at the WS Recreation Department, Recreation Center, 1500 Walker St.  The office hours are Monday through Friday, 9:00-4:30 p.m.  Race Packet pick up/registration hours, fees and other information is listed on the form.  Forms are available on line at www.wspirngs.com/departments/recreation.asp.  All participants receive a race shirt, Chrono Track time chip, number, goodie bag and raffle number. 

Again this year is a Fun Run for children 9 and under.  The course is less than a mile and will start at 8:45 am.  Parents running in the 5K at 9:30 am are welcome to join their children as a warm up.  No official scoring or awards will be given.  Participants receive a shirt and official race number.

 Race day registration begins at 7:00 a.m. at Forest Hills School.  Race Day all participants will pay $32.  The Fun Run participants pay $10   

There will be pre-race group and individual stretching at the Start Line area at 8:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. for runners and walkers.

BEAR NECESSITIES pediatric cancer foundation will again benefit from fund raising efforts by local volunteers.  Volunteers are needed to help at Race Day Registration and after the finish refreshments.  To volunteer or for additional information call the Recreation Office at 708-246-9070 or stop in the Recreation Center, 1500 Walker during normal office hours, or check the website.
