LT Baseball Wins Summer League Championship

The Lions knocked off Joliet Catholic 7-3 on Thursday night to claim victory in the Illinois High School Baseball Coaches Association's Phil Lawler Summer Classic.

The Lyons Township High School baseball team (32-4-1) claimed the Phil Lawler Summer Classic title on Thursday night with a 7-3 victory over Joliet Catholic Academy, the team’s fourth such championship since 2002, but the first since 2006.

The Chicago Sun-Times reports that the Hilltoppers were held to a single three-run inning in the third, after which the Lions went up 5-3 in the fourth and never looked back, playing stellar defense, particularly second baseman Sam Cybulski and left fielder Jim Pavlik.

Junior Max Larsen was a standout for the Lions, reports YourSeason.com, pitching for the first five innings, four of them scoreless. The southpaw hurler also got two clutch RBI singles, the second to tie the game at 3-3.
