Soccer: LT Boys Face DG South in Regional Final

No. 4 seed Lyons Township High School boys soccer team beats Argo, advances to Hinsdale South Regional final against No. 5 seed Downers Grove South.

The Lyons Township High School boys soccer team beat Argo 2-0 Tuesday, to advance to the 3A Lyons Regional final against Downers Grove South High School, seeded No. 5 in the tournament.

The No. 4 seeded Lions have been on a winning streak this month. Tuesday marked the team's eighth consecutive win since a Sept. 28 loss against No. 1 seed Hinsdale Central, according to High School Cube NewsJunior midfielder Harry Hilling and senior forward Matt Murphy scored the two goals to secure the No. 4 team's spot in final, the site reported.

Last year, the No. 10 seed Fenwick High School upset No. 2 Lyons 2-1 in penalty kicks in the 3A Hinsdale South Regional final, according to High School Cube. 

The LT boys soccer team celebrated a major milestone for the program and for Lyons Township last week, when the team defeated Argo 4-0 in their final regular season match and made Lyons Township High School history.

The win marked head coach Paul Labbato's 130th career win, making him the most successful varsity boys' soccer coach in the 47-year history of the program. 

The Lions will play Downers Grove South, who beat Downers Grove North 1-0 Tuesday, at 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26 at Lyons Township High School, South Campus, 4900 Willow Springs Rd., Western Springs.
